Graduation Requirements:

One semester required in 9th grade.
3 semesters required for graduation.

Fulfilling the PE requirement:

After one semester as a freshman, the remaining two-semester requirement can be fulfilled in two ways.

1. One quarter credit for participation in each sport of Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity athletics. The participation must be for the full season.

2. Credit granted for participation in non-school sports. The activity must be approved in advance and validated by the Counseling Dept.

Description:

This course includes activities designed to improve and maintain the five health related components of fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.

Students will analyze their level of physical fitness at the beginning of the year, and then reevaluate their fitness at the end of the year.

The class will promote, encourage and maintain a healthy lifestyle and a positive mental attitude.

Description:

Description:

This course is a continuation of the freshman program with additional emphasis on team sports and body conditioning. Students will run on a regular basis, with the emphasis being on cardiovascular conditioning.

Students will also be exposed to strength training and flexibility work through activities such as weight training, yoga & Pilates. Team sports will be used to further develop the basic athletic skills, as well as teach how cooperative effort produces team success. Team activities may include football, basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer, European handball, and a variety of other fun and healthy competition.

Description:

None, although all students usually take PE 9

Description:

This course explores the importance of physical fitness, artistic expression, and achieving personal goals. Students will develop a dance vocabulary and participate in various dance forms such as ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and multi-cultural dance. Students will be guided through technical and creative exercises on how to interpret music, use expression, execute various styles of movement, interpret, critique, and build choreographic skills. Pilates and yoga basics will be included.

Meets the UC/CSU Visual & Performing Arts requirement.

One-year course; Elective; Co-ed.

Prerequisite:

DANCE I or previous dance training outside of school with instructor approval.

Description:

This course will continue to explore those aspects covered in Dance I, while also focusing on working as a team, performance techniques, and strong choreographic skills through improvisation, plus analyzing and critiquing professional work. Students are given more opportunities to choreograph, create ideas for the shows, and perform in extra school performances such as Arts Alive and So Show Me.

Meets the UC/CSU Visual & Performing Arts requirement.
