Emergency Response Training After the incident this week, we received feedback from parents that identified areas where we can improve our emergency response activities and communication. Some parents were confused by our word choice, others wanted to know more about our drill schedule, and when staff would receive their next training. We thank everyone for sharing ideas and expressing needs for us to improve our clarity. Our next training is Wednesday, August 31. Our next drill is Friday, September 2. The critical ingredient in emergency response is a uniform response to a variety of scenarios. The uniform response starts with a standardized vocabulary. We're taking steps to standardize our vocabulary so all stakeholders can understand our response and status during an event. The actions in the graphic above describe our five primary responses. They are announced over our Public Address system followed by a directive. For example, during an Earthquake drill, the announcement would be: Shelter in Place, Earthquake. Drop and Cover. Faculty, staff, and students will be trained on this vocabulary and the actions to take. We will be adding our Emergency Response Plan to our website and sharing a handout specifically for parents. Our drill schedule will be online and we will communicate with parents following a drill. Each faculty and staff member will receive materials for their classroom or office. Posters will be installed near the doors in each room. Faculty will receive a presentation appropriate for students to ensure we're all familiar with the simple, action-based language and steps. The Emergency Response protocols are only one part of our comprehensive Safety Plan, but we hope that sharing them reassures parents, students, and staff. |

Fall Sports Photos and Programs Volleyball team and individual photos are being taken today. The remaining teams will be scheduled for photography in the next two weeks. Simultaneously, the Fall Sports Program is being designed and produced with a tentative release timeframe of late September. Parents of athletes will notified by Bella Photo and Design for picture packages. Our long-time sideline/game action photographer Jim Rael decided not to continue on as our sports photographer this year. We believe he is still interested in doing private sessions with families if you are interested. Please understand that the Diocese requires our vendors to be under contract to conduct business/provide services on our campus and plan accordingly. Bella Photo and Design will take action shots during home games and take the individual and team photos this year. We thank them for stepping up so quickly. |

St. Rose of Lima Mass Our first all-school Mass of the year was celebrated on the feast day of our diocesan patroness, St. Rose of Lima. With the help of the Campus Ministry Team, all students were welcomed into the gymnasium, a multipurpose space that became, for the time, a sacred space. The Marian Sisters of Santa Rosa and our new senior theology teacher, Ms. Neese, helped us to worship God by providing beautiful sacred music. Our campus chaplain, Fr. Plass, preached on the treasure buried in the field and the pearl of great price mentioned in the day's Gospel. He encouraged the students by grade level to identify a spiritual treasure to seek during this new school year with the help of Jesus. The Newman community looks forward to many more all-school Masses in the coming months, and family members are always welcome to join us! |
