Welcome Back to School and Fall Athletics! Our coaches and support are excited to welcome all students to the 2022-23 school year and the Fall Sports season! Over 80% of Cardinal Newman students engage with some form of athletics and we encourage everyone to find an activity they enjoy. And, we recently found out that Cardinal Newman is ranked the eleventh best high school for sports in California -- out of 1314 high schools! We thank our coaches, the supportive parents of our athletes, our donors, and our students for helping us have such a well-respected program! Please take a few minutes to read through this quick newsletter to know how to get involved with sports this year! Go Newman! – Monica Mertle, Athletic Director mertle@cardinalnewman.org |

| I'd like to echo Monica's welcome to the Fall Sports Season and 2021-22 School Year. For parents new to athletics, we use SportsNet as an online clearinghouse for our athletics. As detailed below, the key information needed to be cleared to play sports at Cardinal Newman will be uploaded to SportsNet. Fall is an exciting time of the year for athletics, with seven programs. All of our coaches are ready to work your children to help them develop mental and physical skills that add to their enjoyment of the activity of their choice. On behalf of everyone in Athletics, I'd like to give a shout out to anonymous donors whose generosity overhauled our weight room and built a new Softball batting cage (they know who they are). Cardinal Newman is truly blessed by our community and parents. I look forward to fielding our team of talented football players this season! Go Newman! Football (JV & Varsity) Associate Athletic Director and Head Coach Richard Sanchez (sanchez@cardinalnewman.org) |

General Information The cost to participate in a Fall Sport is $300 for Football and $200 for all other sports. This fee will be automatically assessed through our student billing system. Some sports have additional costs/fees (i.e.-Spirit Packs, travel expenses, equipment, etc.) that will be communicated by the coaching staff. You will find all of the necessary information (tryout times, coaches contact info, etc.) on our Fall Sports Tryout Schedule. This is a live document so coaches will continue to share updates over the next couple of weeks. Please click the "Link to Sign-up for Tryouts" and fill out the Google Form on the Fall Sports Tryout Schedule. Submitting this form in advance allows your coaches to plan and it also allows the Athletics Office to confirm with your coach that you are cleared to tryout. If you show up to tryouts unannounced, you may not be cleared to participate. |
