Young Alum Christmas Gathering |
|
|
Friday December 17th, the classes of 2018 to 2021 were invited to an afternoon Open House in the new Classroom Building Courtyard. With warm drinks and cookies donated from Costeaux Bakery, Will Seppi '93, the sunny day gave our recent grads, who were displaced by the 2017 fire, the chance to see the promised progress for themselves. The new classrooms are spacious and well lit, the view from the second story gives a different perspective of our campus, and the courtyard is a great space to gather. With nearly forty grads coming by, it was a good chance to see others who are away in college but home for the holidays. |

Welcome! Welcome to 2022! As we learn more about the Greek alphabet, the new variants are causing us to delay events at school with the hope of having them once County Health Rules allow; a fluid situation all around for all of us. We were fortunate to have a Young Alum gathering on December 17th for the classes of 2018 to 21 at the new Classroom Building Courtyard; those students bore the main disruption post fire and it was a chance for them to see the structure that was spoken about often. As one of the teachers getting to use the space, Room 222, I'm thrilled with how it was built, thank you Wright Construction, and its spacious, well lit rooms. The view from the second story is also a bonus. If you are in the area, stop by to visit and see it for yourself. You will also see the area where the Student Life Building and Chapel are being built next, hopefully ready in 2023. While we have a variety of Alum stories to share with you, we need to hear from you for updates to share next; family news, work information, or special events all make for good sharing, so let us know more. |

Honoring Alums in Medical Profession - Send Info! Continuing our sharing of stories of service, we would like to feature the many Alums, CN and UHS, who are involved in the Medical profession. With many Doctors, Nurses, Researchers, EMT/Paramedics, Public Health and support staff graduates, we hope you will share your background, education, places of work, and experiences; since some may not receive our newsletter, please let us know of Alums we should include; better to crosscheck than to not have their names or stories. Having a sister who is a nurse and a brother who was a Paramedic/Firefighter, I understand the challenges they faced, especially during these last two years of Covid pandemic. Let's honor their service together. Send your information to me at rutherford@cardinalnewman.org |

Incoming President Kimberly Waite also recognized the years of service Ling has given, adding, "Brian has been deeply involved and represented the Sonoma County Alliance with each of our current advocacy opportunities. Dave Robb, CN '02 Need to move? Looking for storage options, including business? Dave Robb can help as co-owner of Robb & Messer Moving and Storage, able, as the commercial says, to move you in the right direction. Over the past five years, their company has come a long way in a short time; contact him at dave@robbmessermoving.com Nic Pederson, CN '04 From his days at Cardinal Newman and SRJC, the 6'8" Santa Rosa native has always enjoyed competing. So, when Credo High School came to him with the opportunity to be the basketball coach before the 2020 season, he accepted. "Just the competitive aspect of basketball," Pederson said. "I played professionally overseas for about 9 years, and I just missed it." Pederson played in Europe, South America, Japan and Morocco. He is the owner of Pass the Rock. PTR features a 3X3 series, Spring/Summer Travel teams, private trainings, camps for 4th-8th grade and clinics. As a coach he notes, "You have a lot less control," Pederson said. "There's a totally different sense of pride when the team's winning and playing well, much more unselfish feeling. It's fun just to be competitive again but it's a different type of competition, strikes different chords." Tyler Merritt, CN '04, is the Area District Manager for Hitmen, a Western Exterminator Company, where he has been in charge for several years. If Pests of any kind are bothering your home, contact them for help.
