Welcome to Spring Athletics! As our Winter Sports teams transition to post-season play, we're excited to announce the official start of Spring Sports! Please take a few minutes to read through this newsletter so that you know how to get involved with Spring Sports this year! Go Newman! – Monica Mertle, Athletic Director mertle@cardinalnewman.org |
| I'd like to echo Monica's welcome to the Spring Sports Season. For parents new to athletics, we use SportsNet as an online clearinghouse for our athletics. As detailed below, the key information needed to be cleared to play sports at Cardinal Newman will be uploaded to SportsNet. Spring is an exciting time of the year for athletics, with ten different programs. All of our coaches are ready to work with your children to help them develop mental and physical skills that add to their enjoyment of the activity of their choice. – Richard Sanchez, Associate Athletic Director (sanchez@cardinalnewman.org) |

| General Information The cost to participate in a Spring Sport is $250 for Boys Lacrosse and $200 for all other sports. This fee will be automatically assessed through our student billing system. Some sports have additional costs (Spirit Packs, travel expenses, equipment, etc.) that will be communicated by the coaching staff. You will find all of the necessary information (tryout times, coaches contact info, etc.) on our Spring Sports Tryout Schedule. This is a live document so coaches will continue to share updates over the next couple of weeks. Please click the "sign up" link next to your sport of choice and fill out the Google Form on the Spring Sports Tryout Schedule. Submitting this form in advance allows your coaches to plan and it also allows the Athletics Office to confirm with your coach that you are cleared to try out. You may not be cleared to participate if you show up to tryouts unannounced. |

Clearance Due Prior to Tryouts ImPACT Tests If you have not yet completed one this school year, email athletictraining@cardinalnewman.org to schedule an appointment. All CN Sports require an ImPACT Test! Your ImPACT Test must be taken under the supervision of our Athletic Trainers. ImPACT Tests only need to be completed once a year (unless a student suffers a concussion – then subsequent tests are required for return to play). Students must bring a fully charged laptop and a signed copy of the Concussion Testing Release Form with them to their test. |
Sports Clearance Process As a reminder, the Sports Clearance Process includes: - Completion of all online paperwork (through SportsNet)
- Completion of an online ImPACT Test with our Athletic Trainers
- Completion of a recent physical exam (dated after June 1st, 2022 and signed by an MD or a DO). Documentation of Medical Clearance/Eligibility must be uploaded to SportsNet
For those who need a refresher, here is a detailed overview of the Sports Clearance Process. |
Clearance Reminders Students must be cleared through SportsNet before they can participate in sports in any way. Students who don't meet these clearance deadlines may or may not be cleared in time for tryouts. Please note that the clearance process is not an automatic system. Every student-athlete's profile must be individually reviewed and approved by the Athletic Department in order to get cleared. Visit SportsNet to complete the process. |
