As we watch the pandemic shift and change on a daily basis, we too are finding ourselves having to make adjustments to our program offerings.
After careful and thoughtful consideration, we have come to the decision not to hold any of the “normal” camps on the Cardinal Newman campus for the remainder of the summer. This is a decision that we hoped not to make, but feel is in the best interest of health and safety for not only our students, but the greater community alike.
While camps are not going to be taking place, we will be continuing with our summer workouts for Cardinal Newman student athletes. As a coaching community, we have also revisited our safety protocols and will continue to do pre-workout health screenings, temperature checks, be diligent with hand sanitization, and prioritize the cleaning of all equipment. Cohorts will remain static and both players and coaches will follow all social distancing protocols.
For the month of July, there will be continued on campus and zoom workouts for each individual program. Coach Ponzo will be leading both on campus and virtual strength and conditioning sessions. On campus sessions will be done in cohorts, be in three different locations on campus maintaining distancing guidelines, and equipment will be cleaned and sanitized after each use. It is our sincere hope that we will be able to welcome families onto our campus sometime in the near future and we look forward to being together again.
The summer strength and conditioning class lead by Coach Ponzo, is designed to utilize both in person and virtual platforms to prepare student athletes for competition. Focusing on core strength, flexibility, and overall fitness, Coach Ponzo will design and direct each session through either an in person (for upper class students) or virtual experience (lower class and youth students) through zoom.
