Measurements of Academic Excellence at Cardinal Newman abound:

-          The class of 2010 received college scholarship offers in excess of $3.5 million for an average of nearly $44,000 per student;
-          They also challenged 166 Advanced Placement exams earning college and university credit opportunities;
-          Cornell, Duke, Georgetown and University of Pennsylvania represent a few of the next academic steps across the nation for some of our 2010 graduates;
-          Faculty member, Dr. Maryanne Berry, received her Ph.D. at the same UC Berkeley graduation ceremony during which one of our 2006 graduates earned a Bachelor Degree with a double major by way of SRJC…all in only four years, while another double major was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa!

It is through the hard work of our students, supported by their parents, under the attentive eyes of our faculty that we continue to measure Academic Excellence.

The Altruistic Spirit of our graduates was most evident in what Mr. Rutherford refers to as the best day of the academic calendar.  Underclassmen, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members gathered in May to hear how our seniors volunteered over 10,000 hours to help our community.  The Community Based Service Learning projects serve as examples of our Catholic Identity while providing academic opportunities across our curriculum.

The most recent Baccalaureate Mass presented examples of Artistic Expression as graduates shared their musical and artistic talents.  These were many of the same students who received “Excellent” ratings from all of the judges at the California Music Educator’s Association’s (CMEA) High School Jazz Big Band Festival at Sonoma State University.

Finally, Cardinal Newman’s academic and athletic results earned Athletic Achievement recognition from the North Coast Section by way of a top 7% ranking among all 171 NCS schools in the prestigious 2009-2010 Elmer Brown Excellence Award.  This is all the more significant due to the fact that our single-gender status is not factored into the rankings.  Cardinal Newman must achieve this recognition with half as many teams of scholar athletes as our co-educational peer institutions.

As you browse through our Website, please know of our gratitude to the many who support our Academic Excellence, Altruistic Spirit, Artistic Expression and Athletic Achievement.  Many work to make Cardinal Newman a very special place indeed.
