Timeline for Junior Year Athletes and College Planning Junior Year (and Summer) Send a letter of interest and Player Profile (student-athlete resume) preferably before your season begins. Let coaches know that you're interested in academics and athletics. This letter will begin your formal admission file. Request an NCAA student-athlete guide by division to familiarize yourself with the rules and requirements. Respond promptly to any questionnaire received from a college coach. Returning the questionnaire notifies college coaches of your interest but returning it promptly indicates your leel of interest. Visit campuses unofficially (unpaid). In addition to an admissions visit, make an appointment with the college coach. You may return to campuses as many times as you want at your own expense. Call or email coaches periodically (request information or notify college coaches of upcoming events). Remember, it is illegal per NCAA rules for college coaches to call before July 1 of your senior year (although coaches can email). Arrange for letters of reference from the high school coach, opposing coach, summer team coach, or teammates who have gone on to compete in college. Attend camps and / or showcases. Play in traveling leagues for exposure.
