Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at Cardinal Newman! Hopefully, this summer has brought you and your family all the rest and recreation needed to prepare for challenges ahead in the coming year. We offer a special welcome to the families entering Cardinal Newman for the first time.
The Cardinal Newman Counseling staff will be providing email college counseling announcements via Naviance, and Counseling Corner to everyone to enhance communication throughout the year. Another way to easily access college counseling information is using the 2010-2011 CN College Planning Handbook for Seniors. A 2010-2011 CN College Planning Handbook for Seniors has been provided to serve the college planning needs of Cardinal Newman 2010-2011 seniors and their families. The Handbook is located on the "Seniors" page under the "Academics" tab on the CN Web page. Please look through this College Planning Handbook for answers to your most basic questions and for information about the college application process. Announcements for seniors are posted on the "Senior Page" on the Cardinal Newman webpage. All College Rep visits and Scholarship announcements are found on Naviance under the "college" tab. Be sure to use all the additional college counseling resources by using Naviance at www.connection.naviance.com/cardinalnewman.org

Senior Parents please join use on September 8, in the ACC at 7:00 pm for Senior Parent Night. We hope to see you there and please refer to the College Planning Handbook prior to this night. We are looking forward to a great senior year as your son prepares for higher education.
AUGUST - SEPTEMBER If you completed Summer School at another institution (Community College, BYU Online) request those official transcripts to be sent to Mrs. Orourke, Cardinal Newman Registrat no later than September 7. These grades will be included with any transcripts we mail to colleges. PARENTS: Please return a COMPLETED CN PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE (Questionnaire can be downloaded from the SENIOR COLLEGE PLANNING HANDBOOK) by September 11 and returned via email or paper to CN COLLEGE COUSELING OFFICE. This will greatly help with college recommendations.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE for October 9th SAT / SUBJECT TEST is September 10. REGISTRATION DEADLINE for September 11, 2010 ACT is August 6, 2010. REGISTRATION DEADLINE for October 23, 2010 ACT is September 17, 2010.
ANNOUNCEMENT: TAX & INVESTMENT MENTORSHIP INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY -Montgomery Taylor, CPA, CFP, Taxwise advisor, is offering an opportunity for a Cardinal Newman student to gain first hand knowledge, and take part in a mentorship program in the fields of Tax Preparation and Investment Management. There is an APPLICATION Process. Applications are being taken in September and students will be interviewed in their office. Parents will be required to attend the interview. Students must agree to a weekly time commitment to participate in the mentorship program. Students will dress and behave appropriately for a professional office enviornment. SENIORS To do this month for college planning... Request applications from Independent Colleges.
Give counselor School report and mid year report for any INDEPENDENT schools.
Meet with your College Counselor and pare down your college list to managable size...Read, Solid, Likely, Safety; about six colleges. In NAVIANCE move your prospective colleges listed in "colleges interested in to Colleges I'm Applying to.
CONTACT teachers by September 30th to ask them to write teacher references (DOES NOT APPLY TO UC's or CSU's!!) After your verbally speak to your teacher, use NAVIANCE to send a message request to teachers for recommendation requests.
If not already registered, complete the process for NCAA Eligibility Center if you will be recruited athlete at www.ncaa.org.

Quest Bridge is please to announce the launce of the 2010 National College Match program, which will assit outstanding low-income students in gaining admission and full four-year scholarships to leading colleges. QuestBridge is a non-profit program. The QuestBridge website is located at www.questbridge.org The National College Match application is available on this website free of charge and is due on September 30, 2010.
